Serving: Montrose County School District
West End Public School District

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers (SROs) serve the unincorporated schools within the Montrose County School District, including Olathe, Oak Grove Elementary, and the West End Public School District.

The SROs represent the Sheriff’s Office at a variety of school events and activities.

On campus, the SROs provide a visible presence to deter or identify trespassers and work closely with the community to address safety concerns such as loitering, traffic issues near schools, and violations in school zones. The SROs are also responsible for investigating criminal law violations involving students and crimes occurring on school property.

SROs also serve as informal counselors, fostering trusting relationships with students and families, offering mentorship, and occasionally providing classroom presentations.

Our SROs are trained by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), which defines an SRO as a carefully selected, specifically trained, and properly equipped full-time law enforcement officer with sworn authority, assigned to work in a school setting using community-oriented policing principles. According to NASRO, an SRO fulfills three primary roles: law enforcement officer, public safety educator, and informal counselor/mentor.
