West End servicES

The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office provides comprehensive law enforcement services throughout the West End of the county, a region rich in history and natural beauty. This area’s story began with the discovery of gold, followed by carnotite, a yellow mineral containing uranium and vanadium, the latter of which is used to strengthen steel.

Located on the far western edge of Montrose County near the Utah border, but still firmly within Colorado, the West End encompasses the communities of Nucla, Naturita, Bedrock, Redvale, Paradox, and Norwood, with a combined population of roughly 2,500 residents.

The West End Patrol Division is responsible for approximately 1,200 of the county’s 2,200 square miles, including 850 of the 1,400 total miles of county roads. Over the last four years, West End deputies have responded to an average of more than 3,660 calls for service annually.

The West End is home to some of the most remote terrain in Montrose County, marked by dramatic canyons, rugged mesas, and sweeping mountain vistas. It’s a place where the wild beauty of Colorado meets the enduring charm of its close-knit communities.

The Sheriff’s Office provides a full range of law enforcement and public safety services, including:

  • Records processing and distribution to local courts and citizens
  • Medical assists in coordination with Naturita, Nucla, and Norwood EMS
  • Bookings and inmate transport
  • Fire assists with the Nucla-Naturita Fire Protection District
