Car seats and booster seats protect infants and children during a crash, yet motor vehicle accidents remain a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. That’s why it’s crucial to choose the right seat and use it properly every time your child is in the car.
Key steps:
* Select the right car seat or booster seat for your child.
* Know how to install it correctly.
* Know when it’s safe for your child to transition to using a seat belt alone.
Safety Car seat inspection, also known as a car seat check, is conducted by trained Child Passenger Safety (CPS) technicians. These inspections ensure that car seats are properly installed and used according to a child’s age, weight, height, and developmental needs.
Proper use significantly reduces the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.
What Happens During a Car Seat Check?
- Inspection:
A CPS technician will inspect the car seat to confirm that it is appropriate for the child and correctly installed in the vehicle. - Education:
The technician will provide hands-on instruction to parents and caregivers on proper car seat installation, harness adjustment, and best safety practices. - Guidance:
They will offer personalized recommendations and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the car seat is being used safely and effectively.
