Fire crews from the South Rim Fire Complex Incident Management Team (IMT) are continuing suppression efforts on the South Rim Fire. The IMT is doing pre-planning and will be establishing an evacuation zone 8 for the private property located just north of the National Park boundary on the North Rim.
The creation of this new evacuation zone on the North Rim of the Canyon is for strategic planning purposes only and there is NO active fire or danger to these parcels at this time. Fire modeling predicts a very low probability the South Rim Fire would cause spot fires across the canyon, however they want a plan in place in event the fire behavior changes.
If a fire does start on the North Rim, Montrose County in coordination with Delta County and the IMT will issue an alert via Montrose County Alerts to provide updates to residents and landowners. Please encourage your neighbors, friends and family who live on Fruitland Mesa out to the North Rim of the Canyon to sign up for Montrose County Alerts at https://www.montrosecountysheriffsoffice.com/montrose-alerts.
Delta County residents, please sign up for Delta County alerts at DeltaCountyCO.gov/Alerts to receive important updates.
