Information Release
On July 31, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM, a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employee reported observing a body floating in the South Canal near the South Canal Power Station. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, and the decedent was recovered from the canal around 7:00 PM.
The individual was transported to Community Hospital in Grand Junction, where an autopsy was performed. The deceased has been positively identified through distinctive tattoos as Benjamin Brent Davis, age 37. Mr. Davis was believed to be unhoused at the time of his passing.
Efforts to locate next of kin have so far been unsuccessful. However, investigators believe his mother may be Angela Dee Davis, possibly residing in the North Richland Hills area of Texas.
The Montrose County Coroner’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating any next of kin or anyone with information about Mr. Davis or his family. Please contact the Montrose County Coroner’s Office at (970) 252-4527 with any relevant information. All tips will be followed up.
The cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the Montrose Coroner’s Office of Medical Investigations.
